听力原文: We have met the enemy, and he is ours. We bought him at a pet shop. When monkey-pox, a disease usually found in the African rain forest, suddenly turns up in children in the American Midwest, it's hard not to wonder if the disease that comes from foreign animals is homing in on human beings. "Most of the infections we think of as human infections started in other animals," says Stephen Morse, director of the Center for Public Health Preparedness at Columbia University.

It's not just that we're going to where the animals are; we're also bringing them closer to us. Popular foreign pets have brought a whole new disease to this country. A strange illness killed Isaksen's pets, and she now thinks that keeping foreign pets is a bad idea. "I don't think it's fair to have them as pets when we have such a limited knowledge of them," says Isaksen.

"Laws allowing these animals to be brought in from deep forest areas without stricter control need changing," says Peter Schantz. Monkey-pox may be the wake-up call. Researchers believe infected animals may infect their owners. We know very little about these new diseases. A new bug may be kind at first. But some strains may become harmful. Monkey-pox doesn't look like a major infectious disease. But it is not impossible to pass the disease from person to person.

Questions 33 to 35 are based on the passage you have just heard.

33. What do we learn about the pet sold at the shop?

34. Why did Isaksen advise people not to have foreign pets?

35. What does the passage suggest we may have to do in the future?

(30)

A.It may come from Columbia.

B.It may suffer from monkey-pox.

C.It may enjoy being with children.

D.It may prevent us from being infected.

听力原文: I met Susan at a dance about six months ago. We get along well together since we like music, dancing, swimming, and tennis. But whenever I start to get serious about our relationship and try to discuss with her how she feels about me and whether we might consider marriage, she gets angry and refuses to talk about it. Passage One

Questions 17 to 19 are based on the passage you have just heard.

听力原文:

Passage One I first met Joe Gans when we were both nine years old, which is probably the

only reason he’s one of my best friends. If I had first met Joe as a freshman in high

school, we wouldn’t even have had the chance to get to know each other. Joe is a day

student, but I am a boarding student. We haven’t been in the same classes, sports, or

extracurricular activities.

Nonetheless, I spend nearly every weekend at his house and we talk on the phone every

night. This is not to say that we would not have been compatible if we had first met in our

freshman year. Rather, we would not have been likely to spend enough time getting to know

each other due to the lack of immediately visible mutual interests. In fact, to be honest,

I struggle even now to think of things we have in common. But maybe that’s what makes us

enjoy each other’s company so much. When I look at my friendship with Joe, I wonder how

many people I’ve known whom I never disliked, but simply didn’t take the time to get to

know. Thanks to Joe, I have realized how little basis there is for the social divisions

that exist in every community. Since this realization, I have begun to make an even more

determined effort to find friends in unexpected people and places.

Questions 17to 19 are based on the passage you have just heard.

17. Why does the speaker say Joe Gans became one of his best friends?

A.They shared mutual friends in school.

B.They had many interests in common.

C.They shared many extracurricular activities.

D.They had known each other since childhood.
