W: Hello, Dr. Ellis, my name's Pam Johnson. My roommate, Janet Holms, wanted me to call you.

M: Janet Holms? Oh, that's right; she's in my Shakespeare—an English class. Has anything happened to her?

W: Nothing, it's just that she submitted a job application yesterday and the company asked her in for an interview today. She's afraid she won't be able to attend your class this afternoon, though. I'm calling to see if it would be okay if I gave you her essay. Janet said it's due today.

M: Certainly, that would be fine. Uh, you can either drop it off at my class or bring it to my office.

W: Would it be alright to come by your office around 4:00? It's impossible to come any earlier because I have three classes this afternoon.

M: Uh, I won't be here when you come; I'm supposed to be at a meeting from 3 to 6, but how about leaving it with my secretary? She usually stays until 5:00.

W: Fine; please tell her I'll be there at 4:00. And Dr. Ellis, one more thing, could you tell me where your office is located? Janet told me where your class is, but she didn't give me directions to your office.

M: Well, I'm in Room 302 of the Gregory Building. I'll tell my secretary to put the paper in my mail box, and I'll get it when I return.

W: I sure appreciate it; Janet was worried about not getting her paper in on time.

M: No problem. I'll look for Janet's paper later this evening, Good-bye, Ms. Johnston.

W: I beg your pardon?

M: I'd like to look into your bag, if you don't mind.

W: Who are you to insist? I advise you to take off, before I call a policeman.

M: I am a policeman, madam. Here's my identity card.

W: What'? Oh ... well ... and just what fight does that give you to go around looking into people's bags?

M: None whatsoever, unless I have reason to believe that there's something in the bags belonging to someone else.

W: What do you mean belonging to someone else?

M: Well, perhaps, things that haven't been paid for?

听力原文:W: Excuse me, Dr Tyler, your secretary said I should come right in.

M: Please do. Jenny, how can I help you?

W: I need to get your signature on my schedule card here, on the line above advisor's approval.

M: Sure, but let's look it over together first. How many courses do you have here?

W: Six.

M: Six? That's quite a heavy load. Any particular reason?

W: I had to drop my chemistry course last semester when I was in the hospital, so I need to take it again.

M: So you've already learnt a lot of the material.

W: Right. And calculus is a part of the second year requirement.

M: Let's see, chemistry, calculus. Oh, I See you'll be in my seminar on the modern American novel.

W: Yes, I'm looking forward to it and to the romantic poetry seminar, too.

M: Two seminars? That is rather a lot. Can you handle the work?

W: I think so. The introductory economics class is very easy and so is the music course.

听力原文:M: Math department, Doctor Webster speaking.

W: Hello, Prof. Webster, this is Janet Hill calling. I lived two doors down from your teaching assistant, Don Williams. Don asked me to call you because he has lost his voice and can't talk to you himself.

M: Lost his voice? Oh, what a shame! Is there anything I can do for him?

W: Well, he has a class this afternoon from 2: 30 to 4:00 and he won't be able to teach it. But he doesn't want to cancel it, either.

M: Does he want me to try to find somebody else to teach the class?

W: No, not exactly. What he wants to do is to get someone to go in for him, just to pass back the midterm exams. He's already marked them and they are on the desk in his office. The whole thing wouldn't take more than ten minutes.

M: His class is at 2: 30, you say? Well, I'm free at that time and I was going to be on campus anyway; so I could do it for him. What room is his class in?

W: Cater Hall, Room two-fourteen. Will you need his office key to get the exams7 He's given it to me and I could bring it to you.

M: Actually, that won't be necessary. We have a master key in the math department. So I can get into his office if necessary.

W: Thank you very much, Prof. Webster. Don doesn't have another class to teach until Thursday, and hopefully, he will be able to talk by then. He'll call you as soon as he can. Oh, yes, I almost forget.

M: Yes?

W: Could you put the next assignment on the board, too? It's all the problems on Page 45,and they are due at the next class.

W: But why are you late? You know our whole presentation depends on the graphs you're holding.
