听力原文:M: Hi, would you like some help?
W: Well, I'm looking for something I saw at a friend's house a few days ago. He said he bought it here. It's a light metal shelf almost a yard long with a magnetic brace that I can attach to a cabinet or a refrigerator. I'm a biologist, and I want to use it for my slides and samples.
M: You're in the right department, but we don't have them in stock now.
W: Oh, that's too bad. Are you going to be getting more?
M: They're on order, but I should warn you that the price has gone up.
W: Just my luck.
M: They were $ 12.50(twelve-fifty), but the new ones will be about three dollars more. Come in next week. We should have them by then.
W: OK. I'll be back. Thanks.

听力原文: Henry Smith taught science at the City School. Once he went to a bookstore and bought some books, most of which were expensive ones. He left them in his car in a quiet street. Then he went and bought some other things at other shops. At 6 o'clock he came back to the car. One window was open, and the books were gone! Henry drove back to his home on Lake Street. That night he wrote a letter to a newspaper. The next day he went to the police. On Friday people read an advertisement in the newspaper:
BOOK WANTED
Have you any books that you no longer want? I buy old and modern books. Open all day on Saturdays. Henry Smith, 18 Lake Street.
Henry stayed at home on Saturday. His first visitor came at 8 o'clock. Henry took him to the kitchen. At half past nine, another man arrived. He had a bag under his arm.
"Mr. Smith?" the man asked.
"That's right," Henry said. "Can I help you?"
"I have some good books. You buy books, don't you?"
"Yes, bring them in. I'll have a look at them."
Soon the books were on the dining-table. "Come in now," Henry called out, "and bring the list."
A policeman came into the dining-room. He read the rifles on the books and then those on the list in his hand. They were the same.
"Come with me, sir," the policeman said to the man.

It was while clearing out the old ham on the far side of the yard that he made an interesting discovery. In a corner, under some old sacks, he found some large fragments (碎片) of an antique bowl. Out of curiosity, he took them into the kitchen and, much to the anger of his wife, washed the mud off them. That evening he spread newspapers over the kitchen table and carefully stuck the fragments together. However, two pieces were found missing.
Two days later, having pulled down the ham, Mr. Fox was digging over the ground in preparation for the installation of a greenhouse, when he discovered the two missing pieces. When he had stuck them in position, the bowl looked so fine that Amelia agreed to its being placed on a table in the living room, in front of the window.
"We might have something a bit special here," he said to his wife. A few days later, Jeremy took several photographs of the bowl, which he sent off to Sotheby's in London.
Unexpectedly, Sotheby's was extremely interested in the bowl and sent an expert to inspect it. It. turned out that it was a Chinese Ming fish bowl, dating back to around 1590, and might be expected to get a five-figure sum at an auction (拍卖).
A week later, still more unexpectedly, two police officers called and told the Foxes the bowl was stolen property.
So the bowl never reached the auction room, and Mr. Fox never received the five figure sum that had been mentioned. However, he framed one of the photographs he had taken and hung it on the wall.
