听力原文: Americans love pets. Many pet owners treat their furry friends as part of the family. If they have an eye for fashion, pet owners can dress their pets in stylish clothes. For special occasions, they can use perfume to make their dogs smell well. You might say Americans treat their pets like they treat their children—sometimes even better. In America, there are more households with pets than those with children. At least 43 percent of U. S. homes have pets of some sort. Exotic creatures, such as monkeys, snakes and even wolves, find a home with some Americans. More common pets include tropical fish, mice and birds. But the all time favorites are cats and dogs, even at the White House. The Bushes’ dog, Spot, has replaced the Clintons’ cat, Socks. Leading a dog’s life in America isn’t such a bad thing. Many grocery stores sell delicious pet foods to owners eager to please their pets. In Houston, Texas, dogs can have their dinner delivered to their homes, just like pizza. Pets can even accompany their owners on vacation. Fancy hotels are beginning to accommodate both man and pets. Furry guests in hotels can enjoy delicious meals served on fine china and sleep in soft beds. The average American enjoys having pets around, and for good reasons. Researchers have discovered that interacting with animals lowers a person’s blood pressure. Dogs can offer protection from burglars and unwelcome visitors. Cats can help the home get rid of pests. Little creatures of all shapes and sizes can provide companionship and love. In many cases, having a pet prepares 32 a young couple for the responsibilities of parenthood. Pets even encourage social relationships: They give their owners an appearance of friendliness, and they provide a good topic of conversation.

(33)

A.Presidents like to keep pets.

B.Pets can offer protection for owners.

C.Pets can encourage social relationships.

D.Pets are good companies to many old people.

听力原文: A good way to see the USA is by car. Americans love their automobiles and in the past fifty years they have developed a vast network of roads and freeways to help them reach their destinations. As few visitors have their own cars, renting one is the next best thing. You will need a valid driver's license and either international credit cards, or a deposit.

You should start out with a working knowledge of the road. Regulations vary from state to state and this can be very confusing to a newcomer. For example, in some states it is legal to turn right at a red light if there is no approaching traffic, while in other states you will be fined for this action. Throughout the country it is forbidden to pass a school bus when it has stopped to let off children.

The size of the country may startle you at first and you may be surprised at the spectacular physical beauty. When the first pioneers began to expand West into the wildness, the natural resources of the land seemed inexhaustible. Nearly 1,000 million acres of land was covered by virgin forests. Much of this was burnt off for farmland and it soon became apparent that the government would have to take action or the natural beauty of the land would be lost for ever.

(33)

A.A driver's license.

B.A passport.

C.An international credit card.

D.A deposit.

They run for health, for beauty,to lose weight,to keep fit,and because it is the thing they love to do. You may have heard the story of the Greek runner,Pheidippides. He ran from Marathon to Athens to deliver the news of the great victory 2,500 years ago. No one knows how long it took him to run the distance. But the story tells us that he died of the effort. Today no one will die in a Marathon race. But at the finish line,we see what this race is about;not being first, hut finishing. The real victory is not over one's fellow runners, but over one's own body. It is a victory of will power over fatigue. In the Boston Marathon, each person who crosses that finish line is a winner.

听力原文: The Americans believe that anybody can become President of the United States. In a recent Hollywood comedy, that is exactly what happens.

Dave Kovic, played by Kevin Kline, is a kind-hearted man who runs a business that finds people jobs. He leads a typical American way of life, except for one thing — he looks exactly like the President, Bill Mitchell. In fact, the only thing that makes him different from the nation's leader is that he is very nice!

The president has started using look-alikes during some public appearances. Dave is offered a chance to "serve his country" by becoming one. However, things go wrong. The President becomes very ill and Dave ends up acting as the President forever.

Director Ivan Reitman, who made the popular and successful comedies like Twins, Ghostbusters and Legal Eagles, could have gone for easy laughs by making fun of the American government. Instead, Dave is an attractive comedy about an ordinary man in extraordinary situations. Kevin Kline gives a double performance as Dave and the President, and Sigourney Weaver is at her best as his First Lady. The love story that develops between her role and Dave is a real classic.

The film is 100% American. However, if you've ever felt that anybody could do a better job running the country than the people in power, then you'll enjoy Dave!

Questions 29 to 31 are based on the passage you have just heard.

29. What is the purpose of the passage?

30. Who plays the role of the President in the film?

31. What can be inferred from the passage?

(30)

A.To make a comparison between Dave and other films.

B.To discuss the Americans' ideas about the President.

C.To tell readers about the American government.

D.To introduce a new film to the reader.
