听力原文:W: Good evening, sir. Welcome to the Royal Fantasy Hotel. How can I help you?

M: My name's Jeff Lin, and I have a reservation for this week. I'll be attending the electronics exhibition beginning tomorrow.

W: Of course, Mr. Lin, we've been expecting you. You'll be staying in room 612. Would you please sign the register here?

M: Certainly. By the way, do you know if there is any mail for me? I'm expecting a few from overseas.

W: Nothing has arrived yet, but we'll let you know as soon as we get anything.

M: Thanks. Oh, one more thing, I was hoping you could tell me the best way to the exhibition.

W: Sure, some of our guests will be taking taxis, but they're a little expensive. There is a bus service, if you'd like.

M: How often do the buses nm to the exhibition?

W: Shuttle buses run every hour to the exhibition center. And for your information, you can find bus, train, and plane schedules on our information rack over there.

M: Great! Umm. Would it be possible for me to change traveler's checks here at the hotel?

W: Yes, of course. For customers' convenience, we accept all the major types of traveler's checks: Visa, Mastercard, and American Express.

M: Good, that makes my life a lot easier! Do you think you could give me a wake-up call at 7:30? I don't want to be late tomorrow morning.

W: It would be our pleasure! Have a good night's sleep.

M: I will. Thank you for your help.

听力原文:W: Good evening, professor. My name is Alice Brown.

M: Good evening, Alice. What is your question?

W: I've been studying Spanish for some years. I go to Spain on holiday sometimes. I've learnt quite a lot of grammar and vocabulary. But I find it very difficult to speak, and when I went to Spain this summer I couldn't understand the Spanish people at all. I got really disheartened.

M: Yes, it is a problem. How long have you been studying Spanish?

W: About four years.

M: Yes, how exactly? Go to an evening class, using tapes...?

W: I've been going to an evening class and I've watched quite a lot of the BBC television programs.

M: Oh, they're very good. Did you buy the BBC book?

W: No, we use a different book in the class.

M: Yes, I see, Alice. I always think that learning a language is rather like learning to drive. Now, you couldn't learn to drive a car by sitting in a classroom or watching television. I think what you need is a lot of practice in using the language.

W: That's all very well if you live in the country where they speak the language, but I don't.

M: Yes, I understand the problem. Though even if you live in the country where the language is spoken, you have to reach a certain standard before you are able to have conversations with the natives. I was thinking perhaps you might arrange with another student or students to have regular conversation practice.

W: I see what you mean. Thank you very much, Professor.

M: You are welcome, Alice.

(20)

A.She couldn't go to Spain for holiday this summer.

B.She couldn't communicate with Spanish people very well.

C.She didn't learn enough Spanish vocabulary.

D.She had few chances to speak Spanish in Spain.

听力原文:W: Good evening, Mr. Brown, and welcome to the program.

M: Thank you!

W: I wonder if you could tell listeners more about the work you do?

M: Certainly.

W: Mr. Brown, I gather that you work for a company developing software for reading electronic books?

M: That is so.

W: Do you think there is much future in that?

M: Well, people buy music online, so why not books?

W: You have to read electronic books on a machine, don't you?

M: That is so, although of course you might be able to print them out on a printer.

W: So why should people read a book on an expensive machine when they can buy a cheap copy and carry it around with them and read it whenever they like?

M: That is an interesting point. People need time to become aware of the value of e-books.

W: Is it true that at the Frankfurt Book Fair, in 2000, there was a prize for the best books published in electronic form?

M: Yes, that is true, the prize was worth $100,000.

W: Who put up the money for the prize?

M: Err, software companies such as Microsoft and Adobe.

W: I suppose they are trying to encourage publishers to get the e-book business off the ground.

M: That's probably true.

(23)

B.On a radio program.

C.In a job interview.

D.In a factory.

听力原文:W: Did you have a good time last weekend?

M: Yes, I did. I visited some friends in Pennsylvania. They live in a small town called Canonsburg.

W: That must have been interesting. I've never been in a small town——just big cities.

M: Neither had I.

W: What did you do?

M: There isn't as much to do as there is here. No plays or concerts, that is, people make their own entertainment, though.

W: What do you mean?

M: Well, Saturday we went to a potluck supper.

W: A potluck supper? What's that?

M: The whole neighborhood has a party. Everybody brings something. It's all put on the table and you can eat whatever you like. That is a potluck supper.

W: It's something like a picnic, isn't it?

M: Well, yes. The weather was warm, so we had this one outdoors. But in winter they have them indoors too.

W: What else did you do?

M: Sunday we went for a drive. We had lunch at a drive-in.

W: Is the countryside interesting?

M: Beautiful farmland. You'd like it.

W: I'm sure I would.

M: Sunday evening some people came to dinner. It was very informal we just sat around and talked. Just a nice Sunday night supper.

W: That's the kind of evening I like. I don't care for a formal dinner so much.

M: Neither do I.

听力原文:M: Good Morning.

W: Good morning, can I help you?

M: Yes, I'd like to know something about the weather in this city in autumn.

W: Well, in September and October you can expect sunny days and not so much rain, but the evenings tend to be cool.

M: I see. I wonder if you could tell me something about the evening entertainment?

W: Yes, there are several cinemas, stage shows in the summer, night clubs and discos, and of course plenty of pubs and restaurants.

M: Thank you. Could you tell me a bit more about the stage shows?

W: Well, they're mostly variety shows for British summer visitors—I don't think they're really very suitable for foreign visitors.

M: Ok. How about the restaurants?

W: There are Italian, Indian, Chinese, Middle Eastern, Greek restaurants—there's even a Swiss restaurant, believe it or not!

M: Are there any typical English restaurants?

W: That's a bit more difficult. To get a good English meal you need to eat in one of the hotels or with an English family.

M: I see. Something else I'd like to know is this: are there any sports facilities?

W: Oh yea, plenty. You can play tennis, go sailing, play squash, play golf—you can even learn to windsurf.

M: That's interesting. Could you say a bit more about it?

W: Mmm, yes. I do quite a lot of it myself—it's fantastic. You know, you stand on a board, holding the sail and the wind carries you along.

B.A hotel receptionist.

M: Hello, Alice, how are you?

W: Fine, thanks. Look, I've just got the prospectus for this year's evening classes. You said you were hoping to come again, so I thought it would be nice if we could go to one or two classes together.

M: Oh, that's a good idea. Is the program the same as last year?

W: More or less. There are a couple of new classes.

M: Which classes are you thinking of joining?

W: Well, there's pottery on a Monday evening from 7:30 to 9:30 and! thought I might go to the folk guitar class on Tuesday and Spanish conversation on Thursday.

M: You usually go to "keep-fit", don't you?

W: Yes, that's on Wednesday, but you're not interested in that, are you?

M: Not really. Have they got a "car maintenance" class this year?

W: Yes, that's on a Monday evening, 7:30 to 9:30.

M: I'd rather like to go to that.

W: Well, you can't do car maintenance and pottery.

W: Thursday, 7:30 to 9:30.
