听力原文:As more women in the United States move up the professional ladder, more are find

听力原文: As more women in the United States move up the professional ladder, more are finding it necessary to make business trips alone. Since this is new for many, some trips are certainly in order. If you are married, it is a good idea to encourage your husband and children to learn to cook a few simple meals while you are away. They will be much happier and probably they will enjoy the experience. If you will be eating alone a good deal, choose good restaurants. In the end, they will be much better for your digestion. You may also find it useful to call the restaurant in advance and state that you will be eating alone. You will probably get better service and almost certainly a better table. Finally, and most importantly, anticipate your travel needs as a businesswoman;, this starts with lightweight luggage which you can easily manage even when fully packed. Take a folding case inside your suitcase; it will come in extremely handy for dirty clothes, as well as for business documents and papers you no longer need on the trip. And make sure you have a briefcase so that you can keep currently required papers separate. Obviously, experience helps, but you can make things easier on yourself from the first by careful planning, so that right from the start you really can have a good trip!

(33)

A.Working women who have no time for cooking.

B.Husbands and children of working women.

C.Working women who must travel on their own.

D.Hotel personnel who must cater to working women.

听力原文: In public speaking, the watch word is preparation. Most of us tend to put things off, at least occasionally. It's so easy to put things off especially those things we do not look forward to doing. So if the speaking engagement is several weeks off, we may feel that we still have plenty of time. But as the day draws closer, we begin to panic. Don't let this happen to you. Start preparing as soon as you're given or accept the speaking assignment. You have much to do and to do it right will take time. How much better your speech will be and how much better you'll feel if you have taken the time to do it right! When you are prepared, you have gathered the needed data, determined what is appropriate to the listener's understanding and acceptance levels, organized the ideas so they flow logically, selected examples and other supports for your ideas and made them interesting to your listeners, developed a great opening that you know will capture the attention of even the daydreamers in your audience checked out the room where you'll be speaking and requested any feasible changes you wish in the set-up of the room If you are prepared, you are confident that you can best convey your message to your listeners. If you waited until a few days before your presentation to begin to prepare, or worse, yet, the day before, no doubt you'll be anxious and with good reason. And now there is not enough time to engage in more than a superficial attempt. Both you and the audience will feel uncomfortable, like retirement planning. It is never too early to start preparing for your presentation. So, start preparing right away.

听力原文:M: Hi, Grace. Mind if I eat lunch with you'?

W: No. Mr. Evans, not at all.

M: Thanks. I just heard that you're studying nutrition and you've got quite a bit of experience working in the cafeteria, so I wonder if you will be interested in a small project we are doing this term.

W: What's the project all about?

M: More and more students have been deciding not to buy the meal here and we want to attract them back. So I want to hear what students would like. Your job would be to find out.

W: Well, if the menus were changed, then maybe I wouldn't have to listen to so much criticism.

M: That makes you perfect for the job. Would you be interested?

W: I'm not sure. What sorts of changes are you thinking of?

M: I'd like to make some changes in the way we prepare our food. For example, just look at what we have to choose from today. You got a fried hamburger and I got fried chicken. They both contain too much fat.

W: But you'd better not get rid of them. They're everybody's favorite.

M: Well, we can certainly keep them, but we need to give the people Who are health-conscious some choices. For example, we could also prepare chicken without the fatty skin and serve it on some rice with a light sauce. Do you think that would appeal to students?

W: Well; I'd like that. You're right. You'd better find out what others think. Sorry, I've got to get back to work. I'd like to hear more though. I'll drop by your office later.

M: OK, see you then.

M: I know what you mean. I'd like to live in the city, but to live in the suburbs is better for children.
