听力原文:W: Hi, Peter. Nice to meet you!

M: Hi. You are?

W: I'm Lisa, [22] a good friend of your young sister Alice. I used to go to your home when you were still home.

M: Yeah, Lisa, I remember, the active girl usually in red. Nice to meet you, too.

W: [22] Alice told me I might meet you here, but I didn't expect it so soon.

M: When did you come here?

W: A couple of days ago. Today I just had my first class.

M: How was your first class?

W: Well, I got lost and I was late as the class was moved to another building.

M: Don't worry about it.[25] It was a freshman class, so I'm sure you weren't the only person who was late. The first day is just going over the syllabus and finding out what will be expected of the students. Still, if you don't want to sit in the front, [23] you'd better go there early to find a seat since the classroom usually fills up.

W: Thank you for telling me. Where are you going?

M: I have an appointment with my advisor. I've been behind in my research for the fellowship, and [24] I am supposed to have an outline ready by today!

W: Oh! What are you going to do?

M: [24] I'll come up with a short outline after biology class and promised him a complete outline early next week. That reminds me. I've got to run. See you later !

W: Ok. Good luck!

M: Ah, yes, I'll call you later when I'm free. What's your phone number?

W: 8887777, easy to remember. Hurry up! Bye!

听力原文:M: Hi, Laura. Where are you heading?

W: Hi, Peter. Put off to the gym. I've got to stay in shape, you know.

M: What's the main reason you work out? For your health, or to look good?

W: To be honest, for both. With women, good looks are always a very important consideration.

M: If you were honest, most men who work out would admit that they also do it to look better, and nut merely for health reasons.

W: Do you get any regular exercise?

M: I do a lot of walking, for exercise and enjoyment—sometimes ten to twenty kilometers at a time—but I never go to the gym like you do.

W: Well, walking is good exercise. How about sports?

M: Not since my school days. I used to love playing baseball, but it's impossible to get enough people together for a game now. Mostly I just watch sports on TV.

W: I play tennis fairly regularly with my friends, and sometimes go swimming and cycling by myself.

M: Oh, I forgot about that. I go cycling sometimes too. And I often go swimming on vacation, but only recreational swimming.

W: Why don't you join me at the gym sometime? I can get you a guest pass.

M: Well, maybe someday, but I'm pretty lazy about things like that.

W: Hi, Peter. How are you? It's been a long time since I've seen you. Don't you live in the dorm anymore?

M: No, I moved out at the beginning of last semester.

W: Where are you living now.

M: I moved to the Oak Creek apartments. I'm sharing a unit with three other people, one from Brazil, one from Japan, and one from Hong Kong.

W: That sounds interesting. How are you getting along with your roommates?

M: Everything is working out just fine, at least up to now. They all share the cooking and I do the shopping since I have car.

W: I guess that would work out. Yon must have all kinds of foods from different countries.

M: That's right. I'm really enjoying mealtime! But we've had a few other problems.

W: Like what?

M: Well, one was that we got confused when the first month's telephone bill came.

W: Hope it stays that way. I'd love to come over and meet your roommates sometime.

M: OK. How about coming for dinner? I'll ask them about it and let you know.

W: Great.

听力原文:W: Hi, Peter.

M: Hi, Laura.

W: flow was your final?

M: Absolutely no idea. Anyway, it's just wonderful to have finished the exam.

W: Yeah, to sleep in every morning.

M: Well, I've got a lot to do before I leave for Chicago. I've got a lot of things I can't take back with me and I don't know what to do with them. I am wondering if I can sell them to someone before going back to Chicago. Perhaps you could give me some advice.

W: Well, it depends on what sort of things they are.

M: There are quite a lot. I have a computer which is second hand and not worth much. What I really want to get rid of is the furniture, the fridge and other kitchen stuff. Oh, there are some clothes and books as well.

W: I see. Well, there are several alternatives. First of all, you could put up notices around the university about the books—you know on the notice boards in the student union building, and anywhere the second and third year students will see them. People are always keen to buy cheap textbooks.

M: Then what should I say on the notices?

W: Just put the titles, authors and prices you want. Don't forget to put your phone number.

M: That's a good idea. What about the furniture?

W: You could try the same thing, but usually students are away all summer so they don't want to buy furniture now. Another place to try might be a second-hand shop. Someone from the shop will usually come around and give you a free quote, and then you can decide. But normally you won't get much money for that sort of stuff.

(20)

A.Tennis sets.

B.Computer and TV set.

C.Bookcase and book shelf.

D.Refrigerator and kitchen stuff.

听力原文:W: Hi, Peter. I just wondered if you fancied coming out for a coffee.

M: Oh, I was just writing a letter.

W: Writing a letter! Is your phone out of order?

M: No —well, not exactly a letter. Ben's applied for a job at a children's summer camp, and they've asked me for a character reference. He must have put me down as one of his referees.

W: Oh dear —you're not going to tell them the truth, are you?

M: What do you mean?

W: Well, he's a self-important show-off.

M: Oh, come on, he's not that bad —I mean, kids love him. He's always entertaining his little brother's friends with his magic tricks and silly jokes.

W: Oh yes, he's great with children —but he's a big kid himself, isn't he?

M: Yes, I suppose he is a bit immature.

W: Also, he hates taking orders from anybody. Do you remember that job he had last summer in a restaurant? He ended up throwing a bucket of water over the chef when she asked him to wash the kitchen floor.

M: Oh no, don't remind me. He won't do anything he doesn't enjoy, will he? Mind you, he did run that restaurant single-handed when the chef and two of the waiters were off sick with food poisoning.

W: That's true. He's good at a crisis. But having said that, he's good at causing a crisis as well —I mean, you know the food poisoning was his fault, don't you?

M: Oh, yes —oh dear, this isn't helping. OK. Let's go out for a coffee.

(23)

A.He is applying for a job at a summer camp.

B.His telephone is out of order.
