听力原文: A recent report has shown that in the United States, people have experienced an evolution concerning their attitudes towards the workweek and weekend. Although some calendars still mark the beginning of a week as Sunday, more and more of Americans are coming to regard Monday as the first day of the week with Saturday and Sunday comprising the two-day period thought of as the weekend. In fact, the word "weekend" didn't even exist in English until about the middle of the last century. In England at that time, Saturday afternoons had just been added to Sundays and holidays as a time for workers to have off from their jobs. This innovation became common in the United States in the 1920s, but as the workweek shortened during the Great Depression of the 1930s, the weekend expanded to two full days—Saturday and Sunday. Some people thought that this trend would continue due to increasing automation and the workweek might decrease to four days or even fewer. But so far this hasn't happened. The workweek seems to have stabilized as forty hours made up of five eight-hour days. And nowadays the idea of adding Monday to the weekend has also been proposed by some people.

(30)

A.Shifting job opportunities.

B.The evolution of the weekend.

C.Attitudes toward employment,

D.Attitudes toward leisure activities.

听力原文:W: Nowadays, more and more people like to go traveling in their spare time. Do you enjoy traveling?

M: Yes, I like it very much. If I have time, I always go traveling.

W: If the journey lasts more than 2 hours, it seems very boring to most people. What do you do to prevent boredom on a long journey?

M: If I go on a journey, I try and take a particular magazine, a novel, a newspaper and my walkman. And I try and read for fifteen minutes and listen to the walkman for fifteen minutes, then get up to go and buy a cup of tea. I try and have various things to do throughout the journey so that the journey does not seem as long and boring as it can often be.

W: What about crossword puzzles?

M: No,I don't really bother with crossword puzzles.

W: What about engaging in conversations with people?

M: Well, I think this might be another English thing. I just don't do it. Partly because ! think they might think I'm taking liberties in talking to them. But if somebody starts to talk to me and if they are interesting, then I'll talk to them. If they are boring, then the walkman goes on.

W: I see. You don't want other people to invade your space.

M: That's it.

听力原文:W: Well, tonight we have Andrew Green in our studio to talk about music. Andrew i
s a great guitarist and has his own band. So, Andrew, welcome.

M: Thanks a lot. My pleasure to be here tonight.

W: Now, Andrew, perhaps you could tell us something about the future trends for the global music industry?

M: Sure. Well, from my perspective as a musician, [19] I can see a dramatic increase in the popularity of Latin music, even now. If this trend continues, I imagine the popularity of Salsa dancing will also rise dramatically. This may result in a slight decrease in the popularity of other types of music.

W: What do you think of the sudden drop in interest in classical music?

M: I think this trend has been in the works for quite some time. As more and more varieties of music become available to consumers, the classic standards may suffer in the popularity contest. [20] I think the drop in interest of classical music hasn't been sudden at all, it's been slow and steady for many years now.

W: Is there any type of music that is consistently popular with most people?

M: If you look at the numbers, rock and roll music has remained a steady constant through the years. I expect the popularity of rock and roll will stay the same in the coming years.

W: It's said that [21] rock music might make one livelier and happier. What do you think of it?

M: That's tree. Research suggests that music can influence a person's feelings and character. [21] There's clear evidence that people who listen lively music are lively people.

(20)

A.Salsa dancing.

B.Classical music.

C.Rock and roll.

D.Latin music.

听力原文:W: Sam. could you review the-results of the survey on leisure sporting activities
again? We need to plan out our proposal for this Friday's business meeting.

M: Sure. I've summarized the results in the handout, broken down by consumer age groups and sporting activities. The survey was administered m 550 men and women between the ages of 18 and 55 years old, and the results have been compiled in the following age groups: 18 to 26, 27 to 35, 36 to 45, and 46 to 55. According to the results, the most active group involved in sporting activities are those between 18 and 26 years old, followed by those 36 to 45 years old.

W: I see.

M: As far as particular sports are concerned, people in these two groups cited jogging as their favorite recreational sport followed by skiing, tennis, swimming, and cycling.

W: And what about these groups broken down by gender?

M: Oh. thanks for bringing that up. Men appear to be slightly more active than women in the 18 to 26 year-old age group, but women seem more active in the other three groups.

W: Hmm. Based on what you have said. I think we should consider targeting the 18 to 26 year-old age group more in the future. I also feel we should consider expanding our line of athletic shoes, particularly jogging and tennis footwear. We also have to come up with a more appealing slogan aimed at this age group.

M: I see what you mean. However. when these results are compared with the survey carried out three years ago. we can see a growing trend among older consumers—those 14. I mean 46 to 55—who are becoming more conscious and concerned about staying fit, I believe this trend will continue, so we should focus on this group instead.

W: I see your point. Well, let's meet again on Wednesday to iron out more of the details of this proposal.

(23)

A.Leisure sporting activities.

B.Average age of athletes.

C.Durability of sporting equipment.

D.People's preference for sporting activities.
