听力原文:M: Cindy! Have you heard the news?

W: No, Steve. What do you mean?

M: You know all the classes we've missed because of the snow?

W: Uh oh...

M: Yup—we're going to have to make them up and the dean says it will have to be during spring break.

W: Steve! We have our vacation all set! What are we going to do? Do the others know?

M: I don't know but I certainly can't afford to miss five days of classes this semester, with that week I was sick...

W: But I really don't want to cancel our trip. All of us have already made our plane reservations!

M: I can try to call the travel agency; maybe they can refund our money. But before we do anything we need to speak with our professors.

W: You think they'll excuse us from class?

M: Probably not. But I was talking to Kevin this morning and he said that one of his professors told him that they could make up the class at a different time.

W: Wow—that's great! Which professor was it?

M: I don't know. But we're going to have to speak to all of them any way.

W: Why didn't they add extra days at the end of the semester before summer classes?

M: Because of the graduation date, which can't be changed.

W: Are other colleges around here doing the same thing?

M: I would imagine so—it's been such a bad winter and we've missed too many classes. We do really need to make them up.

W: I know, I know. I was just really looking forward to this vacation. The idea of the sun and the beach!

M: Oh look, there's Professor Hampton right now!

W: Come on, let's go talk to her!

(23)

W: Sorry, hot I usually go to the cafeteria and review them. Say, how about copying them over in the library?

M: Okay, I think I've got enough coins for the machines. You're a lifesaver, Marylyn!

W: No problem. But I don't understand why you need my notes, Matt; you haven't missed any classes.

M: Weekday mornings, I'm a cashier at a coffee shop downtown. After work, I come directly to school Marylyn, am I beat?

W: Wow, you're probably exhausted!

M: That's exactly why I want to borrow your notes; I've been nodding off during class, so my notes aren't very good. I'm so happy that you lend your notes to me.

W: Well, here's Professor Labelle; how are you feeling?

M: I'm usually awake at the beginning of class. But after thirty minutes, I have trouble keeping my eyes open. That's re ally terrible, isn't it?

W: Listen, I need someone to study with, and you need someone to keep you awake. Shah we be study partners?

M: Yeah, that's a good idea. I'd sure appreciate it.

W: Okay, let's start today at the library. We're going there anyway, and I don't have to go to the cafeteria.

听力原文:W: Oh, hi, Daniel. Are you going to the in-service gaining today?

M: You bet. I missed the training session last month, so I have to be sure to make this one. Aren't you excited about the program?

W: Not really. Before I became a nurse I drove an ambulance and had a lot of emergency medical training. Practicing basic first aid techniques is a kind of boring for me.

M: Well I can understand that. But you know, it's amazing how quickly you get out of practice. As nurses in a hospital, we have all the fancy equipment for medical emergencies-and plenty of doctors around, so we hardly ever get a chance to practice basic techniques. They're really easy to forget. And you know that practice makes perfect.

W: I can see your point, and it never hurts to review what you're already supposed to know. By the way, who's teaching the class this time?

M: Dr. Huston. She's the new emergency room physician.

W: Well, she certainly ought to know what she's talking about. I've heard she's a really good surgeon.

M: That's right. I've been taking care of some of the patients she worked on, and they all think highly of her.

W: When are you going to head over to the classroom?

M: Immediately. I'm just on my way there. Do you want to walk over together?

W: That sounds good to me. Let's go and prepare for the training.

(20)

A.At a dentist office.

B.In a school.

C.In an ambulance.

D.At a hospital.

M: I had never expected this would have happened to me. We had a power failure at home last night.

W: How come? Did anyone in the family, do anything wrong?

M: You've guessed it. It was all my father's fault.

W: What did he do?

M: I was just watching a wonderful football feature program on TV when the lights suddenly went out.

W: Why was that?

M: You see, we'd just had our dinner. My mother was washing my jeans in the washing machine. And the air-conditioners were on in both rooms. I was in my room watching TV.

W: What was your father doing then?

M: He wanted to warm his tea in the microwave oven. He plugged it in and the fuse broke. And everything stopped all of a sudden.

W: Your next-door neighbor is an electrician, isn't he?

M: Yes. Luckily, he happened to be at home. He came and fixed it up. But it was half an hour later. I had already missed a lot.

M: Hi, Anna. What can I do for you?

W: Remember, I e-mailed you about getting the handouts from the class I missed the other day, and you said I could stop by and pick them up today.

M: Oh, that's right. You know, that's the fourth class you've missed this semester, and that's not doing your grade any good. I assume you had a good reason for being out....

W: I know, I really hated to miss another class, but I had the flu, and I could hardly get out of bed. That'll be the last class I miss, though. I promise.

M: Okay, uh...Oh yes, the handouts. There were three of them, and I'll get those for you in just a minute. They're pretty self-explanatory, but if you have any questions, just send me an e-mail.

W: Okay, thank you.

M: Sure. Uh, but we also watched a video, and we'll be having an essay question about it on the next exam, so, Hmmm...Do you have a VCR at home?

W: Actually, I don't, but I do have access to one.

M: Okay...Well I can lend it to you, but the only thing is, you'd have to watch it tonight and get it back to me early tomorrow, because I'm going to be showing it in the other section of that class tomorrow afternoon.

W: That'd be great.

M: Okay...You know what? How about if we do it this way? I'll keep it for now and show it in my class tomorrow, and uh then you can drop by here and pick it up on Friday morning and bring it with you when you come to class next week. How does that sound?

听力原文:M: Oh, Jane, you're early! I'm happy you're here early today because I'd like to
discuss your attendance for a moment.

W: Oh, Dr. Green, I'm really sorry about missing yesterday.

M: Actually, it's been several days. Counting today, we've only had 6 classes, yet you've already missed 4. You won't be able to pass if you're constantly absent.

W: I'm really sorry, but I've been extremely busy. I promise to attend the rest of the classes on time.

M: Well, I hope you're ready for today's exam.

W: Today? I thought it was Monday!

M: Read the outline, Jane; this is precisely what I'm talking about. You should either make an effort to attend, or you should consider withdrawing while it's still possible.

W: What do you mean?

M: Today's the final day you can withdraw and get a full refund.

W: Maybe I really should; what do you suggest?

M: I wish you could attend classes regularly; however, if you don't believe you're capable of this, then don't waste your money.

W: Thanks, Dr. Green; I really appreciate your advice. If it's okay, I suppose I'll go ahead and drop the class.

M: It's entirely up to you, but that might be best if you don't think things are going to change. Excuse me, the students are coming, and I've got to get ready for class. I wish you the very best of luck, Jane.

听力原文:M: Hey, Sue. I was wondering if you could fill me in on Monday's class. I had to
go the dentist for an emergency and I missed Prof. Smith's lecture. What was it on?

W: It was pretty interesting. She talked about volcanoes, active volcanoes, under the -- uh -- West Antarctic ice sheet.

M: There ere active volcanoes under the ice?

W: Apparently so. She said they help protect the ice sheet and prevent melting. Flooding would be pretty bad if that ice melted, not only there, but all over the world.

M: You lost me there. Volcanoes are hot. How can something hot prevent ice from melting?

W: Wait a minute, let me check my notes. Yeah, here it is. Volcanic heat melts just enough ice to create a slippery surface on the bottom of the glacier. This water allows ice to flow out into the ocean. So the solid interior ice is protected from the ocean's warmth. Does that make sense?

M: Son of. You mean that because the ice is flowing out to the ocean, the warmer ocean water can't flow in.

W: Exactly. And the ice that melts is constantly being replaced by snow. Prof. Smith said that if the ice sheet ever broke up and melted, the sea level would go up seven meters. Then we would have those floods.

M: Is that really possible? Or is it one of those exaggerations you hear all the time?

W: As far as I can understand, it is possible, because of global warming. I mean if the ocean got a lot warmer that interior ice would be very likely to melt.

M: Thanks for telling me about the lecture. Sounds like I've missed a pretty important class.

Why did the man ask about the lecture?

(20)

A.He wasn't present at the lecture.

B.He didn't listen to the lecture attentively.

C.He didn't appreciate the lecture.
